I’ve always thought that a sunscreen in your foundation was a good thing. Titanium dioxide is often the ingredient used to infuse an SPF into makeup. I’ve worn bareminerals for years thinking that it was “good” for my skin with the added benefit of containing an SPF.
I started investigating the overall safety of cosmetics, and learned that my loose powder foundation had a rating of 7, 10 being the worst. So much for “healthy!”
After more research, I learned that the “culprit” in my loose powder foundation was the titanium dioxide (SPF). How could this be? Don’t I need sun protection?
So, I dug a little deeper and discovered that titanium dioxide, when floating in particles, is actually the “bad” ingredient. We shouldn’t be inhaling titanium dioxide because it is considered a possible carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
Therefore, when titanium dioxide is found in cream/liquid foundations, it is not considered as unhealthy because the particles are not potentially inhaled.
I am getting ready to order OMIANA Creamy Matte Intense Coverage Foundation as it is a healthier foundation choice for me. I am excited to try it and plan to post a review of it!
