Give Your Body the Immune Support It Deserves

IMG_2729My whole view toward health and wellness has changed a lot over the last couple of years. I feel like we live in a society that is very symptom-focused. And then we band-aid those symptoms whenever they pop up. This is definitely what I used to do.

But what if we shifted to a more preventative mindset? To keeping our bodies healthy and strong BEFORE they fall below the wellness line. I’ll be the first to admit that this was kind of a weird concept to me at first. But after taking this approach the last couple of years, I’ve seen a big shift in the way that I feel. And sickness rarely hits our home (maybe once per year), which is so nice for both of us. I’m so thankful to Continue reading

A Must See: Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

IMG_2592My favorite flower is a toss-up between a tulip and a hydrangea. Fortunately, they grow during different seasons, so I get to enjoy them both for quite a while!

Even though I was born and raised in Oregon, I feel like there are so many things that I’ve waited too long to go see and do. One of those is the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn! I’d heard about it for so long, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally made it up there.

It is SO BEAUTIFUL. We’ve gone up every spring since we first visited. You drive out into the countryside, and all of a sudden there are 40 ACRES of tulips of all different shapes, sizes, and color. And if you’re lucky (and early enough), there might even be hot air balloons taking off. So pretty and fun!

Of course, the highlight of the festival is the tulips; I’m sharing some of my photos Continue reading

Disneyland Area Hotels Review

IMG_2522Disneyland and California Adventure seem to have turned into an annual trip for me and my husband! We love it so much and always have the BEST time, so we just keep going back!

On our last three trips, we have stayed at three different hotels, so I thought I’d share a bit about them! I think my hardest decision for each trip is deciding where we stay. So let’s dive into the three that I’ve chosen in the past.

SPRINGHILL SUITES – MAINGATE

There are two Springhill Suites properties in the Disneyland Resort area. This is the one to the northwest of the parks on West Ball Road, not the one at the convention center.

This hotel is quite new and absolutely beautiful! Our room was Continue reading

Favorite Christmas Advent Calendar

Christmas is my favorite holiday! This whole holiday season is one of my very favorite times of year! There’s just so much fun stuff that’s going on – music, decorations, trees, parties, family get togethers, picking out gifts, and so much more!

As a child, we had a cute little advent calendar that hung on our hallway closet door, just below our stairs. There was a little yellow star that moved to a new pocket/date each day. My brother and I each got to move it every other day (this avoided racing down the stairs to beat the other!). Of course, as we got older, we realized that YOU wanted to be the one to move the star to its final pocket – Christmas Eve. Fortunately, our mom has a good memory and would remember whose “year” it was. These are the kinds of Christmas memories that I love! And I love that my mom still has the same little calendar hanging in her dining room.

My brother and I may not live at home anymore, but Mom and I are still able to do an advent calendar “together.” Thanks, technology! The past several years, we have been faithful to this Continue reading

Starting Your Day at Disneyland

Disneyland may be the happiest place on earth, but it can also be one of the busiest places on earth! Learning to use your time wisely and going in prepared can make all the difference between a super fun day and a stressful day.

When my husband and I visit the parks, our goal is to maximize our time so that we can get as much done as possible during the day – rides, shows, food, and all the other fun things Disneyland has to offer. We’ve learned lots of tricks along the way to make that happen, but I think that my best suggestion is this: start your day out right!

Yes, that means that we get up early, even on our vacation. But it’s SO WORTH it! Mornings are the slowest the parks are going to be all day, so Continue reading

Disneyland & Oils

It’s probably no secret by now that Disneyland is my happy place! My husband and I have had the opportunity to visit for the past 3 years, and each trip just gets better and better! I’ve learned more about the parks, getting on rides efficiently, and just having a FUN time.

Of course, one of the most important parts of having fun is feeling good! Between traveling (we fly), tons of walking, early mornings, late nights, junk food, and well, just being on vacation, it can be a lot on our bodies. But it’s worth it and so much fun!

The title of the post gives it away, but one of my favorite tools for making sure that we feel our best on vacation are oils – plus various oily products. And guess what? We made it to Disneyland and back (7 days total) COMPLETELY above the wellness line. Love it! Here’s a quick list of what I used Continue reading

Meal Planning + Prepping

Meal planning and preparation were hard for me to incorporate into my weekly routine. Though I’m not entirely sure why, because, really, it’s not that hard. It just takes a little bit of time and the more you do it, the more efficient you become! Now, I am able to  look forward to having  extra time during the week that I would have otherwise spent in the kitchen.

Part of the reason this works so well for us is Continue reading

Lemon Trifle

Lemon! One of our family’s favorite flavors and in one of our favorite forms: a trifle. I personally love how easy trifles are to make. Its pretty layered look is easy to assemble, and also easy to serve.

We’ve made this recipe for years, and it’s always a HUGE hit whether for holidays, birthdays, or catered events. It has a shortbread crust layer, a tangy lemon layer, and lastly a cheesecake-like layer. Individually they are all are good , but even better Continue reading

Acure Hydrating Conditioner

Finding the right hair products can be a challenge! When you are trying to find healthy alternatives, it can be even more of a challenge! Add to that extreme sensitivity to fragrances, and your options are quite limited!!!

For years, I tried to find hair products that my nose/head could tolerate! I tried many salon brands and also tried some drugstore brands. I usually found that if a product did work Continue reading

Fresh Harvest Cafe | Florence, Oregon

I love when we find fun little restaurants on our travels! This unassuming cafe is one of them! It’s located on Highway 101 in Florence on the north end of town. We’ve never really had a “favorite” spot in Florence, so we’re glad to have discovered a place now that we can look forward to returning to next time.

I’ve been to Florence countless times, but hadn’t noticed this cafe before. It’s a quaint yellow Continue reading
