Meal Planning + Prepping

Meal planning and preparation were hard for me to incorporate into my weekly routine. Though I’m not entirely sure why, because, really, it’s not that hard. It just takes a little bit of time and the more you do it, the more efficient you become! Now, I am able to  look forward to having  extra time during the week that I would have otherwise spent in the kitchen.

Part of the reason this works so well for us is Continue reading

Chocolate Almond Butter Protein Bites

I’ve been craving chocolate and peanut butter all day, and there’s not a peanut butter cup to be found in our house right now. My husband has been asking me to make some protein bites to have for snacks, so I decided to combine his request with my craving! Certainly a healthier choice than Reese’s.

After spending 20 minutes searching for a recipe, I couldn’t find anything that sounded good. So, time to make my own! The results? Pretty Continue reading

Healthy Shopping from Home

THRIVE MARKET – not to be confused with the Thrive health patches – has become a favorite online shopping place for us. It’s convenient and fast, and we always receive our products within a few days! This is a fantastic option for us because we live an area where most organic shopping is only available at a few pricier stores.

“Thrive Market is a membership community that uses the power of direct buying to deliver the world’s best healthy food and natural products to our members at wholesale prices, and to sponsor free memberships for low-income American families.”

But the BEST PART? All their products are always at prices 25 to 50% off retail! That makes for some big savings. They carry Continue reading

Simple Berry Sauce

In the spirit of working on healthier eating habits, we decided to ditch flavored and sweetened yogurts. They tend to have a lot of extra sugar and other not-so-great things in them. Now we just buy plain yogurt and add this yummy sauce to it!

It is SO EASY to make and takes very little time! An added bonus? I actually think it tastes better than what you can get in the stores.

We mainly use the sauce for our yogurt, but it would be great as a topping for other things too!

What you need:

  • 1 cup frozen berries
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/3 cup water

Mix ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Continue reading

Easy Blackberry Muffins

One of my FAVORITE blogs is 100 Days of Real Food. It’s full of fantastic information on eating more healthfully (cutting out processed foods) and she has LOTS of yummy, practical recipes.

I certainly have room for improvement,  but I am trying to improve my eating habits by making more foods from scratch with quality ingredients and less junk!

Muffins seem like a good place to start, right? I love them, but never make them. Then I found this recipe on Lisa’s blog for a much healthier version and decided it was time to give them a try! These muffins are sweetened with fruit juice and Continue reading
